Frequently asked questions

Short answers about Reverse BDS, BDS and how listings are verified.

What is Reverse BDS?

Reverse BDS is a free, searchable map of businesses, organizations and public figures that have publicly said or done something covered by our criteria, such as boycotting Jews, Israelis or Israeli products. Every listing is backed by evidence you can check: screenshots, the exact words, the original post and its date. The name is a response to BDS: it lets customers see what a business has publicly said or done before they spend.

What is BDS?

BDS stands for Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions. It is a campaign launched in 2005 that calls for economic, cultural and academic boycotts of Israel. People disagree about its aims and methods. This site does not rate the campaign. It records public evidence of boycotts, in the businesses' own words.

How are listings verified?

Each listing needs at least one piece of evidence: a screenshot, the exact words or a link to the original post. We record who said it (the owner, the official account or the person themselves), when, on which platform and whether it covers one location or the whole brand. We keep an archived copy when we can, and show when the listing was last reviewed. Rumours and private messages are never used.

Is a business safe if it is not listed?

No. Not listed only means nobody has submitted evidence yet. It does not mean the business has been checked, and it is not a recommendation. If you know something, you can report it.

How do I report a business?

Use the report form: add a screenshot or a link and, if you like, where the business is. You do not need an account or an email address. A moderator reviews every report, and nothing is published until they decide. We never share who reported.

How can a business respond or be removed?

The owner can show they run the business by putting a short code on its website or official profile, then write a response. It is published as written, next to the evidence. If a listing is wrong, or the business has changed hands, use Report a correction on the listing and it is reviewed again. If the business withdraws its statement and we can verify it, the listing shows a retraction for 12 months and is then removed.

What do disputed and retracted mean?

Disputed means someone has questioned the evidence and it is being reviewed. Retracted means the business withdrew its statement. A retracted listing says so clearly at the top and keeps the original evidence on file for a limited time.

Is my privacy protected?

Yes. There are no accounts and no ad trackers or social pixels, and we don't keep your searches or the location you share with the map. We count visits with Google Analytics, with its advertising features turned off. Reports never publish your name or location. The privacy and contact page has the details.

Which cities are covered?

We started in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and add places as reports arrive. Browse a place from the home page or search for a business name.
