How we verify

ReverseBDS lists businesses, organizations and public figures for specific things they publicly said or did, set out below. Each listing shows the evidence in their own words, with the date, so a visitor can check it without taking our word for it.

What gets listed

  • Refusing service, entry, bookings, work or collaboration to Jews or Israelis, or to "Zionists", for example a "Zionists not welcome" sign. We quote the words as written.
  • Removing or refusing to sell Israeli products, or brands boycotted for their ties to Israel.
  • Signing or endorsing a boycott pledge or the BDS campaign, including resolutions passed by unions and associations.
  • Calling on others to boycott Israel, Israelis, Israeli products or Jews, or promoting boycott lists.
  • Statements targeting Jews as a group, such as Holocaust denial, portraying Jews or Israelis as Nazis, or the term "Zio".
  • Praising the October 7 attacks or Hamas, celebrating "the resistance" in the week after October 7, or calling for an intifada.
  • Posting or displaying the slogan "From the river to the sea", in any wording or language, including as a hashtag. We quote the words as posted.
  • Saying that Israel is committing or has committed genocide, for example "genocide in Gaza" or #GazaGenocide. We quote the words as posted.

How we describe listings

A listing records what was said or done, by whom, where and when, in the exact words. We don't describe anyone's motives or character, and a listing never says more than its evidence shows. Hostility toward Israel on its own, without any of the conduct above, does not lead to a listing.

Who can be listed

Businesses; organizations such as nonprofits, congregations, unions and student unions; and public figures who sell, perform or publish under their own name. A business is listed for what it does, or for what its owner says publicly. An employee's views never count against the business. An organization is listed only for its own acts, such as a pledge, a resolution or an official statement, never for what a member says.

What counts as evidence

Each listing needs at least one evidence item: a screenshot, the exact words, or a link to the original post. We record who said it (the owner, the official account, or the person themselves), the date, the platform, and whether it covers one location, a franchise group, or the whole brand. We keep an archived copy when we can.

People

Public figures and business owners can be listed for public statements. People are shown by area only, never by street address. We do not list private individuals, family members, or minors.

What does not get listed

On their own, these do not lead to a listing: calls for a ceasefire, fundraisers and humanitarian aid, a Palestinian flag or similar symbols, solidarity posts, criticism of Israeli government policy, or attending a protest. Nobody is listed for who they are, for a like or a follow, or for a connection to someone who is listed. A listing is never created from rumor or from private messages. A statement of solidarity in the subject's own words, such as "I stand with Palestine", may be shown as supporting evidence on a listing that already qualifies under "What gets listed", marked as a solidarity statement. It never leads to a listing on its own.

No reports found is not a clean bill

When we show no reports, it means no one has submitted evidence yet. It does not mean the business has been checked.

Right of reply

A business can respond. The response is published as sent next to the evidence. Mistaken identity and ownership changes trigger a re-review.

Retractions

If a business withdraws its statement and we can verify it, the listing shows a retraction banner for 12 months and is then removed.
